This kind of transparency

The only way I managed to do this was in a viewport. Create a texture and assign some transparency to it. Then using class overrides, add that texture to all the classes that you want to be transparent.

For RW Rendering,

a semi transparent Material and Edge Display enabled.

No, it's called XRAY (Shape) mode here 😉

 

 

BTW

Nemetschek Allplan had always such a display mode, already since the last Millennium,

which I always was jealous of while I could just have shaded or real raytraced (without lines)

or pure hidden lines in my Microstation ....

Ah, I meant the XRAY View Mode in Shape.

Shape has no UI for it but in full BC you can control all View Mode options

or create your own Style.

Which means amount of transparency and number of transparency depth rays

and all kinds of Lines and Hidden Lines and their Attributes and Styles.

So by tweaking you should be able to get any desired result.

That would be similar control to VW's VPs layering 2 Render Modes.

 

 

BTW

Yes, Ghosted in Rhino looks much better than XRAY,

kind of shaded wireframe ....

The transparent parts are missing the faded outlines Mark. That's the key bit to this view really.

Are they not in your image above?

The problem that I don't think VWX is going to solve is that the foreground dashed hidden line in my image above is going to apply to everything and not to just the stuff with the translucency.

That's true, some are, just. But some are lighter, much lighter. See for example the floor overlapping the stair edge here. Perhaps this is just a matter of lighting in VW?

True. The other thing is that dashed hidden line is it's a RW view instead of OpenGL, so not very good for using as a working view.

Aren't the thicker Lines just the "Section" style Lines around the cut Parts ?

I see no further Line Weight Variation (like depending on transparency depth or such)

Just Section Cut Styles and standard Edge Style.
