Circular Insulation Tool - oh I wish

Could we have a Circular Insulation Tool, that would be really useful, for when we need to show insulation around pipes in plan views / sections for example.

this would be extremely useful / helpful. A tool that would be easily adjusted to change thickness for the insulation, and adjust set-out points from either inner or outer perimeter / diameter kind of thing.

If you mean insulation batt then that would not really work, due to complexity/distortion/file size, we use the default  Component Insulation Fibre hatch so in your case you could just show a ring of insulation around your pipe and use that hatch,  I'm not sure where it's located though but we have it saved in the Resources palette, it's probably in the Vectorworks Architect workspace. You could make the insulation ring as a symbol and have different sizes perhaps?

There is a way to do this using a combination of Walls and Tiles, however you may find it's not graphically what you want when you have a tight radius, like a pipe. But you could play with the size of the tile and see what works. See attached vwx file.

But as the radius get tighter gaps start to appear where the tile can't reconcile

We are still on VW2016. Did the round wall batt start for 2017 or 2018?  

 

I just drew the attached using walls like you, interestingly I then added a length of insulation batt but it didn't push the file size up that much, not sure what a curved one would be like though.

This request is somewhat similar to the donut tool in AutoCAD and the likes and yes it would be nice to have as you can change the inner and outer diameter.

Another option could be to create a parametric Marionette plugin that acts as a tool that sort of does the same. Maybe you could ask in the Marionette forum, as it should be a relatively simple thing for those skilled in Marionette.
