preparing data for dtm

I have imported data from an arial survey. The contours came in in many many pieces. I have composed the many small polygons into larger polygons. Before I convert them to 3d, I would like to reduce the amounts of vertices present in each polygon. When I double click on a polygon, it is jam-packed with vertices and I know this is contributing to the large file size. Many of these seem repetetive and unnecessary, but would take months to erase by hand.

Is there a tool or command that can filter out the seemingly useless vertices and still leave the general shape of the polygon?
