Scott61
Hi, I have been creating elevation viewports, using them to help with conceptual design on an existing structure. Every time I close the program, and then re-open it later, the modifications I made are there but not the viewport elevation. How do I make these permanent? Quote Link to comment
rDesign
Under File > Document Settings > Document Preferences, on the ‘Display’ tab, check ‘Save Viewport Cache’. This is a ‘per document’ setting, so you need to set it for every file. You can also make this setting the default by saving it to your template file. Quote Link to comment
Scott61
Thanks so much, that worked, but now I am trying to make the 2D elevation 3d, gothic arches are near impossible. I tried a sweep but cannot get a gothic arch, only a barrel. This is a try at extrude but it won't sit on the beam, I cannot just drag it where it need to be 3 dimensionally. Any ideas?? Then I need to give it some volume also...I thought I might could sweep it on a line, making the line the arch?? Quote Link to comment
cberg
Probably the quickest way to make an arch like that would be to use the shell solid command. Move using move tool. point to point mode. Quote Link to comment
Kevin McAllister
Here's a step by step how I would build the geometry of a gothic arch. After going through all the steps I think I would recommend building it in Top/Plan view on its back, instead of in front view, and then switching to a side view and rotating it into the correct orientation. The user friendly nature of Top/Plan would make the process a little easier. The Sweep tool is one of those tools that prefers Top/Plan and working in Top/Plan would mitigate some of the alignment issues you're struggling with. Andy Broomell
Extrude Along Path would be another possible approach. 2 Quote Link to comment

It partly depends whether you want a single piece or not and how much design you do during your layout. KM Quote Link to comment
