Bruce Kieffer
I changed the class of my staircase. Now it wants to assume the attributes of the class even though I have different attributes for it set in the Attributes palette. How do I make the Attributes palette attributes override the class attributes? Quote Link to comment
AlanW
@Bruce Kiefferhi in the stair settings in the classes you can set all the pieces of stair by any class you want Quote Link to comment
Bruce Kieffer
That is what I have done. The class has a white color fill and the staircase takes on the white color fill rather than the fill I assigned the staircase in the attributes palette, which is a color other than white (yes I know white is the absence of color!). AlanW
@Bruce KiefferHi, in the attached the stair settings the top section deals with the 2d attributes what you see n plan and the bottom deals withe 3D. I set to separate class textures for each piece of the stair. HTH Stair.vwx Quote Link to comment
Bruce Kieffer
@Alan Woodwell, I was thinking maybe I'm using a legacy staircase tool or setup. Seeing your screenshot makes me think I'm correct. My settings look completely different. I will investigate and reply back. It looks like I used the "Simple Stair" tool rather than the "Stair" tool which is included in Architect. Even so, with the "Simple Stairs" applying a fill color that shows in 3D still must be done with the class fill (as far as I can tell). In the more flexible "Stairs" tool it appears I could apply a color to override the class color attribute. I'm converting my staircase now! Here's the dialog box of my "simple stair." Bruce Kieffer
Here's something that is confusing me... What is <Stair Class>? Does that mean whatever class the staircase resides in? Quote Link to comment
Diego - Resuelvector
Is the Class that the Stair objetc itself is placed. Quote Link to comment
AlanW
@Bruce KiefferHi the stair you are using is the Custom stair as that appears to be the dialogue box from it. The stair class is as mentioned is whatever class you place the stair on and it controls the look of the stair in 2D. I think of it similar to walls, its the container. Components control the 3D look as far as i can see. Stair.vwx 1 Quote Link to comment
zeno
Is totally of topic but custom stairs look better than stair logic tool Edited February 24, 2018 by Zeno Quote Link to comment
AlanW
Custom Stair has great flexibility for changing directions easily. Edited February 24, 2018 by Alan Woodwell Quote Link to comment
Bruce Kieffer
@Alan WoodwellIt's the "Stair" tool I have. "Custom Stair" must be an addon since I don't see it in my workspace options. Quote Link to comment
AlanW
@Bruce Kiefferadd it to your OIP via customize Quote Link to comment

michaelk
Bruce I know it's there (I put it in every workspace :-) Make sure you're on the tool tab. Look in All Tools on the left. Quote Link to comment
Bruce Kieffer
@michaelkYes, it was found. Alan helped me locate it. I placed all of the staircases together. Quote Link to comment
jnr
B: Just beware that with later versions, the custom stair which has been relegated to the legacy pile, will often corrupt especially with more complex buildings. In the meantime go check out the archicad stair tool and drool... Quote Link to comment
JMR
On my darkest moments I'm seriously considering switching over to...a program with better stair tool. Quote Link to comment

Boh
I'm not on VW2018 yet but it looks like the stair tool still hasn't been sorted yet... I'm also using the custom stair tool - much more user friendly than the stair tool despite it's many frustrating bugs. Where do I find the wishlist topic to vote for a stair tool upgrade? michaelk
Does your version have the Custom Stairs as a legacy tool that you can add to your workspace? Quote Link to comment
