hidden line renderings not finished in 11

Recommended Posts

I've noticed that my hidden line renderings are not complete in VW11, either in viewport mode or on design layers. The renderings will leave several objects in wireframe. I'm working on a G5 dual processor 1.8 w/ a gig of ram, so I doubt the computer is to blame. Besides, I used to use a G4 w/ about half the performance capability. In some instances I've rendered the exact same model from a previous file that I used on the G4, and gotten a less finished rendering. Is there something I'm missing?

I'm glad to see that I'm not going crazy or anything. Hopefully the good folks at Nemetschek can help us out on this one.

The same thing happened with VW 10.1.2 for mac. It took a few months for VW to realize that this was an actual bug (because it was completely random). It was corrected in VW 10.5 for mac...

If you have smallish examples you can send my way, I'd like to take a look at them. The only known issue I have (and have fixed for our next release) is an issue with viewing certain objects in perspective views, so if your renderings are orthogonal, I'd like to see them.

I have a small sample... how can I send to you?

My sample file is composed of symbols. One symbol is used at z=0 and z=7.125 in several instances. All of the ones at the higher elevation do not render properly.

Send it to me at the e-mail address below. Is the problem with two instances of the same symbol, with the front one not hiding the rear? Just after I sent my initial response, I remembered that there's also that issue. Again, it'll be fixed in our next update, and my apologies for the inconvenience. (If that's the case with your sample file, it's probably fixed, but you can send it to me and I'll verify that it will be fixed.)

The problem is that in half of the instances, the symbol is not rendered solid, and in half it is. The ones on top may be partially covering the ones on the bottom. I will send you a file.

We bought VW 11.0, but have not installed yet. How soon before the next update is available? Hidden Line Renderings are a critical part of my projects. I may stay in 10.5 until this is resolved....

Andrew,

I believe most of the discrepancies occur in perspective views. I'll look and if I can find any wierdness in orthagonal view, I'll send it along. When is your next release available?

Thanks for your attention.

I know, I thought of this too. But I build everything the same way, starting with a default fill, and progressing into 3d from there. I even have cases of instances of the same symbol not being rendered properly, while others in the same rendering do render properly.

Does it happens with extrudes rectangles, circles?

It happens to me with those obejcts. If I convert it to polylines or polygons before the extrude, they render ok. I think it's a bug...

I am getting this same exact problem. It is also happening with symbols created originally in VW10 that I have been using for a long time with no problem at all. It is definitely a BUG!

I also have had this problem. Even though the object has the attribute of solid it still does not render. I can sometimes fix this by changing the attribute from solid to something else and then back to solid. I would also say this is a bug.
