Issues with Active Document / Window Selection

I've been regularly having an issue in 2018 where I cannot switch between two files.  I have two files open in VW (we'll call them A and B for clarity).  I am working in A; I select B either by clicking the tab or using the window menu and the screen switches to the inactive document (B).  However, if I do anything (pan, zoom, draw a line, navigate the resource browser, etc), it happens in A, not B, even though by all accounts, B is the active drawing.  In the window menu and resource browser, A is checked or bolded, indicating that it is the active document, even though it is currently in the background.

 

This is driving me nuts.  The only way I've found to fix it is to close all files but the one I want to use.  This is far from ideal.

This is a bug we are actively tracking in 2018. I was able to replicate it here as well.

I've encountered this as well, with the added gem of, on several occasions, having VW suddenly undo multiple drawings steps without the ability to redo them. Each time after this has happened I then noticed that the information displayed in the OIP referred to the other open project.

I can’t work in multiple files for this reason at this time. At least multiple large files ( I noticed it did this when I had one large file open, and one small one) so thought it could be a caching or memory usage bug.

Plus 1 from me too. Actually I don't have this problem but my 2 colleagues do, one of whom has exactly the same pc and VW software as me....hmmmmm

Hello Everyone. I worked this through with VSS UK (Dom) and he reset our preferences on the 2 x PCs having the issue which seems to have solved the problem

This problem went away for a while after I installed SP3, but has come back with a vengeance in the last few days and is once again driving me totally nuts.  Any idea when this will actually be fixed?

I am having this same issue. Worse, it's so confused that it won't let me save my changes on the (actually) active file. The only way I can deconfuse it is by closing everything, but then I lose all progress. Someone please help, this is ridiculous.

THis appears to still be an issue with 2020?  I had it with 2019 as well.

has any one found a way to fix this issue in vw 2020 as my documents have just stoped re-docking for some reason. I have updated VW 2020 so I am unsure why this has happen.

I'm seeing it too.  I think it started with the most recent update.   I talked to someone at VW yesterday.  They already had a bug filed.

Running VW2018 for Windows here and am experiencing this recently - it was running like a bull when I first got it up and running but in the last couple of months (with no updates since originally installing SP6) it's been awful!.... thanks @elarsonld for the original post - thought I'd never find anyone else experiencing this.  the only obvious fix for me which is counter productive is to close all but 1 file.

 

I sure do hope there's still juice left to patch this for VW 2018 users.

this hasnt been resolved. Still happening in 2021...and its happend in all VW I have used from 2017 onwards. 

 

Its actually inhibiting the production and efficiency of drawings from our office. 

 

Needs a fix ASAP

Several vaccines for covid have been developed and released before this bug has been fixed and an update released even.  Any fix for this yet???

Just a bump to this question. This has been driving me to drink (which might not be a bad thing) for years. Can we please get this fixed??
