digitalcarbon
not sure what causes this but here his how you can deal with it. Quote Link to comment
Benson Shaw
Good analysis and solution for move with drag. Move By Points instead of move with drag allows acquiring the start & end points without need to rush between them or even have them both visible. MBP also reduces problems with acquiring unwanted snap points. Unwanted acquisitions may be generated, but the intended target can usually be acquired with zoom (incl mouse wheel and snap loupe/boomerang). Refresh lag may be shorter or non existent because the intermediate positions do not need to be drawn. Digital Carbon could you test your sample move with MBP to see if unwanted points are less intrusive and whether the lag is reduced? MBP should be set for 0 copies. -B Quote Link to comment
digitalcarbon
MBP? how do i do this? Quote Link to comment
Kevin McAllister
Another solution if you know where you're moving it to is to acquire the first point and then tab into the mode bar and enter the target coordinates manually using enter. I often do this when trying to relocate whole theatre drawings to the origin. Kevin Quote Link to comment

Andy Broomell
@digitalcarbon I don't have to hold down the mouse button when using Move By Points. I wonder if you have click-drag drawing turned on, which would cause that? I prefer click-click drawing, but it's just a personal preference. Quote Link to comment

EAlexander
Hey - with no disrespect, can I ask your system specs.... Because that doesn't look like too complex geometry...? And what LOD is your open GL set to? I always forget MBP for operations like this. A good solution. Edited January 16, 2018 by EAlexander Quote Link to comment
zoomer
I also bothered him with the machine specs. (Because of his mega files) He has nearly the same nMac Pro as I do. Quote Link to comment
digitalcarbon
i just tried it set to Low...takes the same time Quote Link to comment
Kevin McAllister
I think the thinking component is the single core problem again. @JimWcould probably confirm if that's the case. Kevin Quote Link to comment
Vectorworks, Inc Employee PVA - Admin Posted January 17, 2018 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted January 17, 2018 If it takes the same sime at both low and high OpenGL settings, then yes the delay is most likely the CPU delay and not related to your graphics card. Quote Link to comment
digitalcarbon
i did not time it exactly but the low setting was not quick like the MBP. i had to wait enough that it seemed the same. Quote Link to comment
digitalcarbon
it seems that an effort to use all cores would beat out the top 20 wish list items... with top notch speed/stability we could model everything fast...while crowds watched on. combined with 3d nav...we would all be rock stars...but with better hygiene. Kevin McAllister
@digitalcarbonwhat are your Layer Options set to? Is it something like "Show/Snap Others"? There's another thread about delays that discusses switching to "Show Others" to speed things up. See here - I wonder if these items are related. Kevin Quote Link to comment

This might be a bug.... Kevin Quote Link to comment
digitalcarbon
all layers turned off... move took same slow time Quote Link to comment
Art V
9 minutes ago, digitalcarbon said: all layers turned off... move took same slow time The speed difference with my drawing was just with Show Others or Show/Snap others. The number of layers being visible or not made no difference, the Snap being active in the Layer View settings did. I.e. if set to Show/Snap others it was slow, if set to Show Others (no snap) it was fast, regardless of snap options set in the snapping palette. Of course at some point it makes no difference if the objects are large/complex enough. Quote Link to comment
