Paste Between Layers without moving Z

Recommended Posts

I don't think this is possible, but I had to ask.

Is there any way to move or paste objects between layers without having to move the objects in the Z axis up or down by the layer height?

Just change the layer in the OIP. It’s meant to work flawlessly. There was an issue with initial release of 2018 with spotlight instruments but that has been sorted out in SP2

That doesn't seem to work for me.  It offset the objects by my layer height elevation. I am in VW 2018 SP2.  Is there a preference somewhere that I am not seeing.

This was so often wished.

Control over Z staying at Layer height or optional in World Z when changing Layer assignment of objects.

Zoomer, I saw your posts about this.  I was hoping there might be some super smart paste plugin or script that could magically address this shortcoming (aka feature) of the program.

I was happy that this was wished again and wanted to add some weight :)

I've been asking for this forever.  Having a script is a good idea, cberg.  When I have some free time (i.e., probably never!) I'll look into it.  It would be a simple matter of getting the z layer settings from the 2 layers and moving by the difference immediately after pasting in place.

Is this not simply a matter of making sure the design layer height of the one copied to is same as posted one. Only copy the info from that design layer.

or have I missed the point?

Could be that in 3d you accidentally draw on a wrong layer or story with

different Z.

Or that you want things on a different layer for visibility reasons which

were initially meant or drawn from world Z.

Or you want to order imported 3d geometry that was drawn in world Z

without layer heights to your story layers.

There was once a bug with push pool tool which made this obvious.

When you pulled on objects on different layers it applied all to active

layer - without adapting their heights.

After you realised that and want to repair layer assignments, you had

to manually repair their heights by layer Z distance to former active layer.

What types of objects are you moving? If they are Layer Plane, then they would pretty much have to change. If they are 3D or Hybrid or Screen Plane, maybe not. I have not played with this at all to see the issue, but I would think the object type would make a difference.
