Click the Wrench and Pencil icon at the right end of the mode icons to get to the Drawing Label Preferences. Set the preferences to what you like. The next time you create a viewport it will use these settings.

I did not know this!!!!

Thanks! Life saver

Hi all,

It is my first message in the forum and I am using Vectorworks 2020 since March this year as I joined a new team in the office.

I was a Revit user since 2007 and there are pros and cons on both programs. For the moment our team is using VW for 2D only as we all shifting from VW 2008 to 2020 now. We aim to shift to 3D modelling and implement BIM in the studio, so your guidance would be very helpful.

Thanks, Pat, for your explanation above. It is useful when creating new labels, but is there a way to update all existing drawing labels on many different viewports and sheets in a project?

Best,

Andrius

I don't have time to test it all right now, but if you  create a Worksheet and then Right Click on a row header and choose Create Report. Select Objects with a Record Drawing Label you should be able to add most of the fields you need to change.

Type the change in the first cell you want to change and then copy it. Select all of the cells in that column of the report and Paste and the value will be entered to them all at the same time.

Or use the Custom Modification command from the Tools menu.

Yes.  The custom Modification command will allow changes to all Drawing Labels at once.  So, if you want to change them all, that's the fastest way to go.

Once you click OK, you'll get a Properties dialog.  Change only settings that you want to apply to ALL Drawing Labels, click OK and you're done.

Or add additional criteria to limit the selection to just the drawing labels you want.  ;-)

What Matt meant was that everything you change when using Custom Modification is modified for EVERY object that meets the criteria, so don't change something like the Sheet Number or Drawing Number unless you really want that to be the same for EVERY label.

Right!  What Pat said.  😉

I tend to use the worksheet method as it allows you to see all the drawing label object info and then you can choose which data to edit.. It allows you to see inconsistencies very quickly. Another bonus is you can save the worksheet in your library as a resource and use it again in other projects.

Ive made a bunch of “Housekeeping “ worksheets for various PIO’s incl Drawing Labels some of which I shared in a post of mine in this thread. I’m pretty sure it included a worksheet for drawing labels.  .

This worked, thank you very much, Pat and Matt!
