michaelk
Is it possible… In v2017 is there a way to set the default values for door and window parameters? Not talking about styles. Just the default, blank document parameters. Quote Link to comment
Vectorworks, Inc Employee PVA - Admin Posted October 3, 2017 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted October 3, 2017 I do not believe so. You can set the tool's default but only per-document. I went looking in the application Default library folder but it looks like the tool doesn't draw its starting parameters from that like some tools do. Quote Link to comment
michaelk
Is there an xml file somewhere that has the default settings? …asking for a friend. 1 Quote Link to comment
markdd
Have you thought about adjusting the settings in the plugin manager for the door and window tools. I have done it for spotlight objects and it works a treat. Edited October 3, 2017 by markdd 1 Quote Link to comment
Vectorworks, Inc Employee PVA - Admin Posted October 3, 2017 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted October 3, 2017 I... honestly thought that you weren't able to use that interface for the Window or Door tools. Thank you very much @markdd! Time for some new videos... Quote Link to comment
michaelk
Hold your cards. Not a bingo. Doors parameters are NOT editable in the Customize Plug-In dialog box. (in 2017. Haven't checked 2018 yet) Yet another Spotlight feature that I wish was in Architect! My question about xml files stands. Quote Link to comment
michaelk
Can't do that in 2018 either… Wish List! Quote Link to comment
markdd
Yes, just tried too. Mmmmm. Anyway, why can't you edit the defaults? Some of the spotlight defaults are editable and it saves a hell of a lot of time. Does it have something to do with the fact that doors and windows are now" styles"? Quote Link to comment
michaelk
Agree about the spotlight parameter editing. It saves a lot of time. You can make styles, which is a lot like the old trick of using red symbols. But I'm interested in changing things like the default settings on sills and thresholds which are not on every door or window. I've NEVER needed a 12" wide threshold! Quote Link to comment
Vectorworks, Inc Employee Matt Panzer Posted October 4, 2017 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted October 4, 2017 You could set the defaults in your favorite template files. This would get you the same behavior. Quote Link to comment
michaelk
I don't always get to initiate drawings. I have a library of red symbol doors and windows that I import into drawings. But especially for things like sills and thresholds I'd love to tweek the default settings so that they are close to ok when I turn them on. So is this not one of those situations where there is a tab or comma delimited txt file somewhere that has these defaults? Quote Link to comment

Thats what I had been looking for in my original reply, I could not find one. Might be hard coded into the plugin objects themselves. Quote Link to comment
michaelk
What to localized versions do? Quote Link to comment
zoomer
There is nothing I would love more than being able to "localize" VW in my way. Defaults Values, Terms, Classes, Everything ... Quote Link to comment
