UI Freeze Option

zoomer

Question

I seriously wish for an option to freeze VW's UI elements from arbitrarily actions,

to prevent things from jumping out of the focus,

until I do any explicit action.

Whenever VW does any changes to Views or lists,

it is always the exact opposite of what I want and need.

I want to see reliably prevented :

1. View changes when Undo

2. View changes when changing any visibility or activation of Layers

3. View changes when going into any Edit Mode like Group, Site Model, Symbol, Extrude, Solids Add/Sub/...

4. View changes when reaching the View Border while a tool is active

5. any jumps in Lists like Navigation Palette when I do any Class changes (especially renaming)

and all those things.

Just nothing.

No movement or scrolling or anything.

I want to do this by myself when necessary.

You can change the options of view changes being saved to the undo table in VW Preferences > Session Tab > Undo View Changes dropdown. There are 4 options there, one being Never, which should prevent view changes from being undone.

Hi Marissa,

yes, there are settings for several issues I mentioned.

1.

For the Undo there is a "never"setting.

But for every Undo, the View will revert back to the state before that undone step.

But that is very likely not the zoom level I need to have control over the Undos.

In fact I mostly zoom out a bit to keep overview over my Undos.

So that setting is more a maybe not in most cases than a never.

2.

There are 2 Settings what happens when changing Layer activities or View changes.

One in Model View and one, I think, in VW Preferences.

No matter which settings I try, re-fit or not, it does neither keep my view center nor

would be able to really fit my geometry.

VW seems to have a irresistible affinity to often show me the file origin

(or even the page size area !?) or other nice places on site that have anything to do with my geometry.

I have my undo view changes set to "Never" as well and it still consistently moves the view while undoing, at least once.

For example, draw a shape, move it, zoom in, then hit undo. It moves the shape back to its original position and also goes back to the previous view. I'm pretty sure it's always done this, and may be working as designed, but it's not working as expected.

Yes, non of my wishes is VW 2018 related.

It was always this way but I think some behaviors got bit worse with VW 2017 (2016 ?),

as I think things like automatic fit view for view changes, either really worked in a non

disturbing way - or maybe it just happened that my older projects center of interest

were more centered of the origin.

Well,

Unified Views "Center View on activated Layer" activated caused the worst beahvior.

If off, it's 70% better.

VW Pref > Display > "Center on Objects after View Changes" works ok

(Would be nice if there would be also a "fit view" option)

and is pretty much needed.

So that works ok in normal drawing/modeling.

What stays are the unwanted view changes :

within Edit Modes,

for Undos,

with scale dependency;
