MPJDesign
So wouldn't it be great if the (for lack of a better term) quick key for the 2D selection tool is the right mouse button...is this even possible? Quote Link to comment
Ray Libby
Get a programmable mouse. I use a Kensington Expert Mouse track ball. Four buttons programmed to click, drag, 2d select, and line tool. Quote Link to comment
MPJDesign
A Track ball for drafting is not an option...any other suggestions? Quote Link to comment
Ray Libby
Ummm, the point was there are lots of programmable mice out there, not just track balls. Quote Link to comment
abrodin@alaska.net
Ray, I have a Kensington Expert Mouse Pro Trackball. It has a total of 10 buttons and a scroll wheel button. I know I haven't used all it's features. Can you give me any pointers on setting the buttons to work more effectively with Vectorworks? Thanks Quote Link to comment
Ray Libby
Tough to answer without knowing how you work, but programming the buttons with the tools you use most would be the short answer. I should add I don't have the same model as you, I only have the four buttons around the trackball. [ 05-14-2004, 10:39 AM: Message edited by: Ray Libby ] Quote Link to comment
MPJDesign
I have a Logitech semi-smart Mouse and I can't seem to find a program-specific definition, but in your case Ray Libby is your mouse definition specific program customized or is it globally defined? Quote Link to comment
Ray Libby
Both global or application. Do you have MouseWare installed? Quote Link to comment
MullinRJ
If you can program a button on your mouse to type the characters XX (the shortcut for the 2D selection cursor), it should work everywhere except in a text edit window. At least I'd like to think that it would. Worth a try. Raymond Quote Link to comment
MPJDesign
Yeah, But in every program other than VW my right mouse button would be useless. I only have the native window software and the Logitech mouse driver/properties customization and unfortunatly it's global. And if you'll read my post in "double click frustration" you'll see that I have been having problems double clicking arbitrarily - unfortunatly more often than not its over a symbol or group and I get bumped to the edit screen. I just wish that the right mouse button in VW could be customizable to a specific tool. I have been able to define it, using customize my workspace, to a specific menu command, but not for a tool (as in 2D select). I use the XX or double click constantly. I have always been a strongly in favor of some button that would always select the 2D selector and if i am typing text, could in theory, get me out of it and on to my next task. Thanks for letting me vent. Quote Link to comment
jan15
To get out of a Text object quickly, hit the keypad Enter key. Quote Link to comment
MPJDesign
hey thanks, I never knew. Quote Link to comment
jan15
GE 5-button programmable optical wheel mouse, about $18 from Best Buy. But in answer to the original question, all you have to do is click twice in the same place to switch to the 2D Select tool. Quote Link to comment
ionw
The other key that exits you from a text block and accepts what you entered is the Escape key. ?If you are a right hand mouser like I am, you don't have to travel over the keyboard.
