I also use Chrome almost exclusively, with only a little bit of Firefox for testing things like Webview. I am unable to replicate this here, however I do on occasion (it seems unrelated to the website as it happens on my home machine and google account as well) get runaway processes for Chrome.

Usually clearing browsing data, limiting it to removing Cache, Cookies and App Data corrects it:
