I don't think that VW can really do much.

That Dialog should appear in C4D/Maxon.

For the first Export from VW you can use "send to C4D" as well as "Export C4D", which has the

advantage that you will find that File again and the "tex" folder images resources beside.

And finally open that File in C4D.

Before an Exchange/Update, C4D has to be already opened, with that special C4D File loaded

as the current active file. Then, when you did a send to C4D and change to C4D App, that

Dialog will appear to ask if you want to Update or create a new Project and what kind of data

you want to transfer or not.

But as you said, you did that already.

Hi all

I have been flat out on another project and just come back to this.  I still have this issue.  Driving me nuts.  Am I the only one?

Basically - I do not get the C4D "Update Merge Options" dialogue box as shown earlier in this thread.

Have re-installed OS X since my last post too.

VWX2018

CD4 R19 - Visualise.

I do get this message when I "Export to C4D", then open the exported file in C4D and then save it.  Could this be the reason why?  If so - why no-one else?!

Please help!

I expected that message as being something normal as VW has R18 built in now and I also use R19.

And I do get that same message when I export a *.c4d from VW 2018 SP2 > open in C4D R19 > Save.

Nothing to worry as long as you do not need to open the C4D Project somewhere else on a R-less-than-19

Thanks Zoomer. I only have R19 so no issue.

Still not solution to my problem though - here is a short video which shows what I am doing.  Does this help at all?  Can you see what I am doing wrong??!

I followed your steps from earlier and no success.  You will also see that the texture I applied to a shape in C4D is removed (though the texture stays in the file)

I MUST be doing something wrong!

Just an idea.

VW > Export as C4D locally

C4D > open that file exported from VW > Save (Standard Save)

(leave both Apps open)

VW > create more geometry on different Classes with different colors

VW > Send to C4D

> C4D comes to front, now the Dialog should appear.

EDIT,

No, I think your Save "with Assets" should not be a problem.

It seems that currently there are some VW 2018 problems with C4D Exchange,

mainly VW not exporting all Geometry/Material/Classs Changes to C4D,

so I would not take your results too serious.

But I have no clue about that option Window not appearing in C4D for you.

(Is it on another Monitor or behind the Window ?)

But it should stop Exchange until any option of the dialog chosen anyway.

I am speechless.

Did exactly what you did.

Of course I got the option menu when updating.

But I am not able to dragNdrop that red material to the slab that was moved.

I could only drag it on the slab that was untouched in VW :)

EDIT

Can't even select it ....

EDIT EDIT

When I force selecting by Object Manager, the selection boundary appears

where the slab was before, not where it appears visually after being moved and updated ....

I had no problems in VW 2017 Exchange - just wishes.

Don't know what happened to VW 2018.

Currently I do Versions/Changes.

(Purging DWG imports seems quite crash prone here. I'm in manual

"save after each action" mode meanwhile)

After that I will see what influence VW 2018 SP2 Exchange will have on these.

Better work in duplicates, so I could revert to VW 2017 if necessary.

Slightly off topic but I went with C4D for quite some time then the latest release just wasn't good enough and it hit me that I had only chosen C4D because of the VW pipeline. Once I got over that I dropped it like a rock and took up Maya. It has been a breath of air with the UV tools (just gorgeous) and the Arnold renderer. VW is seamless into Maya without a single issue at all. No doubt, for me at least, it has been a successful decision. I now build in VW and then light, texture and render in Maya. I often use VW structures as reference objects in Maya and rebuild if required.

For interest it was BodyPaint and the utter lack of pipeline with Substance Painter and Unity that killed C4D for me. Well those and the complete jumble of a material implementation which confused me no end. I am sure it works for others but the quality of my work has never been higher and that is after less than 3-months.

As I say, I appreciate it works for others but not for me.

Same here.

My choice would be my Modo though.

But import by FBX is ok only, not as good as C4D (Symbols/Instances)

Opposed to C4D there is no exchange, just one way dead end import.

And still lots of organizing, cleaning up and optimizing steps needed.

That is quite unattractive for my work which is about ongoing design

changes.

So it would end in also modeling in Modo. If I look back it would be more

effective overall anyway. But I love to do Architectural geometry in a

CAD Toolset and love parametric Tools.

So secretly I hope VW will screw up VW 2017's C4D Exchange completely,

so there is no more need for C4D and I can switch back to Modo :D

But then there is also no more need for VW and I can work in Bricscad ;)

Bottom line is quality of final output and there really is no contest. The Arnold renderer is just beautiful and honestly no matter how hard I work in C4D I just can't reproduce. Materials are a confusing mess and UV mapping is laughable so the time I lose (and there is a lot of it) fixing everything else in C4D, only to end up with an inferior output, I can spend in the object hierarchy.

My workflow is so much quicker now from end-to-end and I really don't go back to VW so its a one-way-ride

In VW 2017 I updated geometry 3 times a day as it was just a push of a button.

GPU rendering is mostly Windows (NVidia) only. On the Modo side they use Octane.

C4D Rendering is ok for my purposes. I could use VRAY if needed.

And there are a few features in C4D that work a bit better or easier for ArchViz.
