VW 2018 - Workspace Migration

After having problems in the past and avoiding to do so over years,

I tried to migrate my VW 2017 workspace into VW 2018.

 

Speaking for the export workspace settings User Customizations only,

that was nearly lossless for me. All docking, Custom Palettes, and VW Settings still there.

 

But the Activation of Quick Settings Bar and Bar above ( like "render mode long")

were ignored.

 

Also the auto-activation of new Tools worked quite well.

As far as I can see only the new Menu Entry for "Multiple View Panes" was missing.

(Ok, there weren't that much new Entries in VW 20128)

Zoomer - It started so well......

 

I've just taken the wrapper off 2018 and started to see if I can be (foolish enough?) committing live projects to it.

I usually use a custom workspace and this is missing for me also.

 

Have you tried adding it through the editor? I can't get it to modify the custom workspace complete with its sub menus. It insists on listing the submenus.

I've just been able to add this by manually adding a 'New Menu' followed by the submenus

 

Edit: (Which behaves as expected btw)

 

I assume thats down to me then - although I would have preferred it to be seamless

^ I did that exactly the same.

 

Not sure if it would have worked by pulling the parent entry from "What changed"/2018,

as I did it manually already.

I also wondered why I could not pull the whole group entry from standard tool's list.

Thats what I couldn't seem to work out. I expected the full menu and sub headings.

 

No great harm done - got there in the end.

That's why I mentioned it,

seems to be a problem with that special Menu,

as the others seem to auto-activate fine.

(Didn't check the Marionette)

I'm assuming the boffins didn't want to automate how new menu items are transitioned to custom workspace menus, as the placement is entirely up to the 'owner' and they should oversee that manually.

I think the intentions was that everything new will auto-activate

(That was an option in Migration Dialog (?) )

and that they have overseen that Menu's problem.

 

I think it is no issue if all new items appear in custom workspaces,

even in edited Menus or Palettes, although I might throw it out again later.

Does anyone know if Migration takes a long time?  My blue bar seems to be crawling (or stuck).
