send/update to c4d: subsequently duplicated symbols not appearing on refresh

alan_e

Question

Hello VW Community

don't know if its a bug or feature, but, as the title says I'm missing subsequently duplicated Symbols on a send/update to Cinema .

the original Symbol is still there on its unvisible null objekt, but the ones I am duplicating just wont show up, unless i uncheck send Symbols as render instances, which pretty much defeats their purpose.

any help will be most appreciated!

Haven't seen this so far.

Nested Symbol only get exported as normal Symbols, meaning the nested ones get

exported as normal geometry inside their parent Symbols.

These are stored in their invisible Symbol Locator folder.

All Symbol copies in the File appear as Render Instances between normal VW Geometry

Layer Sorting.

Have you checked if you have accidentally visibility of "Instances" deactivated in Object Manager,

deactivated any C4D Layers (from Classes) or activated that "show selected Layer only"

Radio Button activated for some Layers ?

Or do these Symbols contain 2D Geometry only ?

Hello and thank you zoomer

I'm still struggling with this, I've set up a very simpe test file, same Problem here.

-not a nested Symbol just a super simple 3D Symbol.

-originally placed symbols are still there after update.

-only the new (subsequent) copies are not appearing.

-visibility of Instances is not a factor since all originals are visible

any further help highly appreciated...

Hoping this info helps a little further:

moving the Symbols works fine: VW send to c4D: update fine.
duplicating the Symbols not working: no update, no duplicated symbols/instances in c4D.

seems as if the linking record for the Symbols/Instances gets just won't refresh to include the newer Symbols on update.

Hi @alan_e

Duplicated symbols not sending to Cinema is a bug. CineRender changed their symbols merging algorithm in later versions of R18 which we were not aware of for a while. It was too late for 2017 to fix the problem but it is fixed in VW 2018.

Does using Native Organization when sending the document help? I'm sure it doesn't work with Sort by Class or Sort by Texture.

I don't quite understand as my symbols came in fine so far.

I used VW 2017 / C4D R18 a whole year now.

OK, I always used Native Organization only. So this might workaround the problem.

Did I get that right that, in other modes,

the Symbol itself, in the hidden Symbols group, comes in into C4D

all of its instances in geometry do export fine for the first export

but all Instances created later will not export with next exchanges ?

hi zoomer,  native is not working either:

-first Export=everything OK

-second Export,Symbols have been moved=OK

but, if:

-second+following Exports: Symbols have been duplicated=no more instances in c4d, they disappear.

all of this in Native mode.

cheers!

Yeah, native organization helps sometimes but in this case the link between the symbol definition and instance was broken no matter what. Sorry about that, I was very bummed to find it out myself.
