Central Location for Preferences

Jim Smith

Question

I've been using the software since MiniCad days, and some preferences evolve over time & I don't access every preference all the time. So when I need to change a preference that I don't access often, I have to either pause & scratch the old noggin, or go through a trial & error hunt.

I think a central location for preferences should be a goal. I'm suggesting that VECTORWORKS & DOCUMENT Preferences should be in the same place. Having said that I understand that a massive Super Preference Screen might seem daunting, but it could be Graphically separated and made more intuitive. (I'd also include stuff like dimensions in this)

Perhaps the first step is a separate Menu called Preferences.

There are 2 clear types of preferences. Ones that stay with the machine/software and ones that stay with the file.

Any other distinction is strictly for a user interface.

Saving and loading of preference sets, or even partial sets (like dimension standards) should be completely normal in modern software.
