Interior Lighting

Exposure has been what I've been using recently as well when I have a RW Camera set up. You could also add a light object to the center of the area you want to brighten with a low 20% or less brightness value, with smooth falloff but no shadows, which depending on the style you're going for can sometimes work better, but that one is very situational, its good to experiment however.

You CAN increase the ambient lighting in the render style, but I think this often looks more fake than exposure or adding shadowless lights.
