Tiling patterns (floors and walls)

Recommended Posts

Not sure if you know but in VW in a top-plan (for example) go full screen and then take a screenshot of the floor area. Open this in PS and then on a new layer add you tile effect. Save as jpg and then import into VW. It is in proportion and will scale perfectly.

The nice thing about this is once you have set it up in VW once you can then just make changes to the PS file and just swap out the texture (change texture) on the floor (or wherever you have the tiles).

Mosa have developed their pattern generator tool so it creates native vectorworks assets (VW 2017).

https://www.mosa.com/en/services/bim-and-cad/vectorworks-cad-files-with-mosa-pattern-generator

You use the online pattern generator on their website (lots of stock patterns to use or edit), and then it generates Renderworks texture files for your design and a schedule of tile quantities.

Had a quick go;  you need to register on their website and download a VW plug-in to get it going, but pretty simple and seems to work really well once you've done that.

I'm in touch with the tool developer (long story).....interested in any feedback!

Just been laying out floor tile patterns for a project. Found this tiling pattern generator where you can create tiling patterns then download a jpeg of it  (generator.mosa.com) and use it on 3d model.

Can only do square rooms at the moment but hopefully they'll add function to upload irregular shape?!
