A way to see VW's versions in a file list

Anything in VWX format can be opened by the latest version of Vectorworks, but anything MCD is VectorWorks 12 or older, and can have a different default application assigned to it.

I believe files used to retain their different colour icons but now I think the OS forces them all to the icon of the last installed version.....

 

The only way I know of to find out which version of Vectorworks created or last saved a file is to open the file in a text editor. In amongst the first line of code it will list the versions.

Below is an example. This file has pieces that were created in VW12.5.0 and was last saved in VW2017 SP 4 (VW counts forward from the old numbering so VW2008=13).
