Vectorworks: PC to MAC, MAC to PC

Recommended Posts

I teach students on iMacs and the majority have laptops outside of Uni (with varying versions of Windows). We have never had any issues at all. Just be aware there are a couple of difference such as the colour picker (which is native to the OS) but they are minor.

The students also have different versions so are aware to File > Export as to trade between machines - once again no issues here

Yes.

UNLESS you are attempting to have both Macs and PCs access the same files from a cheap NAS (or Network Attached Storage, basically a hard drive in a little box) solution, then sometimes files that are open for someone else dont always get marked as read-only and then you get duplicates. If you store the files on a Mac or Windows server or even a Mac or Windows desktop/laptop however you won't have this problem, only on NAS devices with poor file management.

Hi,

this post is quite old, but I am new on Vectorworks and I am working on it for some jobs with an associate.

He's on Mac, me on PC.

Hi,

Can anyone help, are PC and mac vectorworks files easily interchangeable, eg. if I get a mac file, will I be able to easily open it on PC (assuming both are running the same version).

Hi Mark,

From Mac to PC and PC to MAC, both of us can easily open the files VWX2019.

The drawings are ok, the Vectorworks objects (doors, walls...) are also ok...

But some basics features are driving us crazy :

- Multiline texts can are all disturbed !

Perhaps due to the fonts formats ?

But we didn't had any problem on Adobe suite for those fonts...

- Pages setup are inconsistent...

When you want to print a drawing with multipage setting, it seems hard to have the exact same dimension of page between PC and Mac !?

You're ritght Jim, but I had the same problem on Archicad, Autocad, and even Word, and Excel...

Multiple access to the same "NAS" file are always quite risky if you are using both Macs and PCs !
