martinfdc
Hi, can someone please explain to me when would I want to turn on the toggle for PORTAL in Indirect Lighting Option - Texture? Does this make an indoor render brighter and faster to render? I'm not sure on what this toggle does. A brief explanation would be greatly appreciated! Quote Link to comment

zoomer
Portals shouldn't make interiors brighter but they can improve quality and render times. You can use that setting for your Window glass material. It will make that area more important and concentrates more rays of indirect light calculation to that area and use less of them in unimportant areas where they may have little effect. You can also exclude glass of windows from casting shadows, GI calculations or using a IOR to speed up your renderings as these effects for glass are very subtil and hard to see at all.
