Tricky 3D curve question

You should probably do this on a duplicate.

 

Select the stair parts - Add Solids

Extend the baseboards so they penetrate the stairs, select them, Add Solids

Select both solid additions, Intersect Solids

Use the Extract tool to extract the surfaces of the intersection

Unfold the surfaces and align them as I've done.

This will allow you to work on the actual developed intersection of the stairs & baseboard.

Ah thanks, now I get you.

 

Wasn't sure what you meant by baseboard, I see it's the american term for what we call the skirting or stringer in the UK.
