Kevin
I am trying to make some custom stairs that have a single structural steel spline for support. The stairs in plan view have straight, and curved sections. I assume that the "Extrude along Path" tool is what I need to use to form this steel spline. The question is, how do I form the path? I need to form sloping curves and sloping straight lines and connect them to form a path. Thank you in advance for any help. Quote Link to comment
Kaare Baekgaard
If the spline is planar, draw the path in 2D using the polygon tool, convert it into a nurbs curve, rotate and position it, select the path and profile curves and use Extrude Along Path. If the spline is not planar, convert the lines & curves into nurbs curves, rotate + position them in continuation using the 3D selection tool, compose them into a single nurbs curve, select path and profile curves and use Extrude Along Path. Kevin
I don't think that I quite understand this. I drew the path in 2d "Plan View" by drawing an arc. I converted the arc to NURBS. Then I go to a side view and rotate the curve or line. by using the 3d rotate tool. However, by doing this, it alters the plan view dimension. The end points are no longer where they belong in plan view. Can the sweep command be used for this. Can it sweep a point into a helical path? If so, what is used to create that "point?" Thank you in advance for your help. Quote Link to comment
