After all that...the illustrator says he'd rather have the dwg (saved selected view) export. These were my settings for that scenario. Would you make any changes to settings from what I have here?

Yes, deactivate 3D > Export Solids as ACIS Solids.

All VW Generic Solids or Add/Subtract Solids you may have in your file would be translated as more complicated

ACIS Solids and C4D would skip them while import because it can't deal with it.

Also I would deactivate triangulation. C4D can deal with Polygons that have more than 3 vertices like "Quads" or "N-Gons"

and that should not be a problem but bring in a cleaner geometry to work with.

were you referring to the "." between VMT-2139 and V4?

Yes.

And the ???? too.

Special characters should work nowadays but they often cause trouble anyway.

Like in cases you want to export between different OS. Or like you can't install german VW version if you have

chosen an OS user name with special characters in it or have your language settings to Chinese and all these things.

ÄÜÖ are quite common here but I still avoid using them on Computers.

No, it's not that easy.

I tried to switch parts off before export to find the problematic part in my file.

Unfortunately all 3 parts exported fine.

When I tried again with all Layers needed I got my zero size FBX again xD

That was an older project.

Forgot that I had lots of furniture symbols instances in my file.

Unfortunately VW does not support Instances translation when exporting FBX.

It worked when I deactivated the Class of the furniture Symbols.
