marshigh
I know VWA. I do not know anything about SKUP or CIN4D. The first attached image is the model I'm wanting to export. I've exported a model (similar to this one) to dwg in the past (see settings) and given the file to our illustrator and he's achieved the results (in the second image). He's had mixed results receiving my export. I think he really had to fool with the file or there was a ton of editing on his end to do. We are trying to stream line the process for him as best we can. He does not know anything about VWA. He had me try other exporting options: OBJ (yielded an exported file which I sent him), C4D and FBX exported zero bytes and COLLADA exported a folder with nothing in it. Can anyone offer a screenshot of the precise options to select that will yield the best results. Technical jargon will mean nothing to me...I honestly just a pic of the settings. Thank you! barkest
Sorry I might have missed something but what does the illustrator do after you give him the file (whatever type it may be)? Quote Link to comment
zoomer
If the target is C4D, the best way to export your VW geometry and settings is C4D Export. Your C4D exports settings are ok. You just have to keep in mind to have all relevant Layers visible before export. Best to set a special Saved View for Class and Layer settings. 2D objects wont come in into C4D in any useful way. For DWG do not use "Export Solids as ACIS Solids". C4D, and many other Apps will skip them when importing DWG. Edited May 3, 2017 by zoomer Quote Link to comment
marshigh
@barkest The illustrator creates the image I attached in my post. Quote Link to comment
marshigh
This is what he just texted me btw. "when import into SKUP, there are missing faces. Some faces are triangulated, sometimes, there are gaps" Quote Link to comment
marshigh
@zoomer The "model" saved view does have all the classes and layers I want to be visible. but the result was zero bytes. Quote Link to comment
zoomer
Did you try to export from a Sheet layer ? I think it has to happen from a design Layer (in a 3D view ?) Quote Link to comment

zoomer
As we have no SU export, I assume by DWG. there deactivating ACIS Solids and use an older DWG version may help too. Quote Link to comment
marshigh
@barkest I have VWA. I am exporting. He has SKUP and CIN4D Quote Link to comment
marshigh
Could you offer a screen shot of the exact settings? Quote Link to comment
marshigh
I don't know what ACIS solids are (technical jargon) see original post Quote Link to comment

marshigh
@zoomer I was exporting from a saved view with a unified view model I believe. Quote Link to comment
marshigh
see visual attached Quote Link to comment
barkest
TBH for me its straightforward you go to C4D not Su as there will be fewer issues. Your export image from the first post is fine but of course its variable given how you set up your own VW file Quote Link to comment

I have never had problems with C4D Export. But I have one complicated Project that also stores a 0 MB FBX when using the (quite similar like C4D) FBX export. Could not find which objects can cause that so far. Edited May 3, 2017 by zoomer Quote Link to comment
marshigh
I just go from this window to export to c4d. I get nothing Quote Link to comment
marshigh
FYI: I've stripped the file of all unnecessary saved view, layer, classes, symbols, etc. Quote Link to comment
barkest
That's fine or the Send to Cinema 4D a little higher up in your menu Quote Link to comment
barkest
If you are going to Su then you need to export as DXF/DWG but its not worth the trouble given the illustrator has C4D which plays nicely with VW. Oh and an OBJ export will give you triangles Edited May 3, 2017 by barkest Quote Link to comment

zoomer
You could try to avoid that "point" in the export file name or any other special character. I would also try to duplicate the VW File with a simple name as that name may finally appear as Group Folder name in C4D. Quote Link to comment
barkest
Just now, marshigh said: don't know what this means? Look at the image you just sent and you will see it as an option on the menu File > Send to Cinema 4D Quote Link to comment
