XML stands for Extensible Markup Language.  It is a tagging system, similar to HTML that is used for web pages, that allows data to be stored using tags around the various parts of the data so that different parts of the data can be accessed.

 

I know that Vectorscript (and the lower level programming systems) have the ability to write and read XML files. 

 

I don't think the VW2017 file format is XML.  The General Notes.txt and Callouts.txt files store the data for the defaults, but they do not appear to be in XML format. If you want to add stuff to those files, the best way is to copy/paste in through the standard VW tools/objects rather than try to edit the files directly. I don't think the file format is public. It appears simple and could probably be reverse engineered, but it would only take a small error to cause lots of problems.
