Christian Fekete
What file type do i need to create to write down a general note that I can use in vectorworks? I am trying to create a spec sheet that I can reuse in VW from a manufacturer website but my .txt file is not recognized by VW. Is it the file extension that is the problem? Quote Link to comment
Pat Stanford
I don't know of a way to import a text file to a VW document. You could either import or reference a PDF. That way you would get the benefits of more powerful formatting also. Otherwise write it wherever you want and copy/paste into a text block or Note object? Quote Link to comment
Christian Fekete
I guess VW creates an XML database, what is that exactly? Quote Link to comment
Pat Stanford
XML stands for Extensible Markup Language. It is a tagging system, similar to HTML that is used for web pages, that allows data to be stored using tags around the various parts of the data so that different parts of the data can be accessed. I know that Vectorscript (and the lower level programming systems) have the ability to write and read XML files. I don't think the VW2017 file format is XML. The General Notes.txt and Callouts.txt files store the data for the defaults, but they do not appear to be in XML format. If you want to add stuff to those files, the best way is to copy/paste in through the standard VW tools/objects rather than try to edit the files directly. I don't think the file format is public. It appears simple and could probably be reverse engineered, but it would only take a small error to cause lots of problems. What exactly are you trying to do? 1 Quote Link to comment
