TArchit
Is it possible to lock the direction of drawing orthogonally to the x and y axis? I am aware you can hold down the shift key although this is only a temporary measure, and most of our drawing is currently orthogonal. Quote Link to comment
zoomer
No, just some tools like the simple Line Tool offer that option. A global option to lock to axis is still missing. Quote Link to comment
Vectorworks, Inc Employee PVA - Admin Posted April 27, 2017 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted April 27, 2017 You can aldo double click on Angle Snapping in the Snapping palette and set the angles to only 90deg, but this is off of existing axes, so if you already had a 30deg angled edge or line it would try to angle 90 deg off of that. TArchit
@JimW thanks for the tip. Even when this is activated I still sometimes get Parallel and Vertical options when all I want to do is ensure I am drawing orthogonally. Seems like a 90° lock tool would be useful . Quote Link to comment
bcd
I actually like using Shift to constrain to Vertical & never used the constrained mode of the Line tool. I often/usually used constrained dimensions however. The wall tool can be used in rectangle mode, automatically generating orthogonal walls. Edited April 27, 2017 by bcd Quote Link to comment
zoomer
^ bcd, where is that, I need that, immediately ! I want to never ever draw any rounded or non-90° Walls in my life. At least not by my will. A found it, the "Rectangle Drawing Mode" But I would like to draw 100% straight in "Single Line" or "Polygon Mode" also. Edited April 27, 2017 by zoomer Quote Link to comment
bcd
I also use this wee guy to ensure 90º for when I'm not Shifting. Quote Link to comment
zoomer
I use it the same way, just deactivated, to not loose the angle settings already set, in case I need them at one time later in my life. Well, Walls always worked quite Well with the SHIFT "lock". And in VW 2017 it also works mostly for other object's creation too. Just that when you SHIFT lock to "X" but have to move more in "Y" direction, that it jumps over in a "Y" "lock" is still annoying. Otherwise it would be great. Quote Link to comment
Honeymonzta1990
Maybe someone can help me in this topic... For some reason I have landed up VW 2018 today and when I press shift it will not lock the constraints! Please can some one help Quote Link to comment
mike m oz
Make sure the Snap to Angle constraint is on. Quote Link to comment
K.D.
I don't know if this has been resolved, didn't read the full discussion. Someone had suggested pressing the T key on your keyboard while moving an object in vw 3D in another discussion, it also works great for locking to the x and y axis when drawing an orthogonal view.
