Worksheet - Lot Area as a Number

Recommended Posts

=(('Property Line'.'Area')) returns a non-numeric string. Eg. 31106 sq ft

I want use the numeric value to calculate allowable Lot Coverage as prescribed by the zoning

How can I extract the area as a number?

I would have a couple of columns

Column A = Area result (e.g. 31106 sq ft)

Column B = The percentage of allowable coverage (e.g. 50% or 0.50)

Column C = Allowable Building Envelope (AxB=C)

In this case, the Area is not stored in the Parameter Record as anything but text.

BUT, it appears that you can use the =Area function to get the data you need.

I only tried this in a database row, but in my test file ='Property Line'.'Area' returned 915.872  sq ft

=Area returned 915.872

Sometimes the simple solutions are hardest to see.

I created a wish list item for this. Please vote up if you think it is worthwhile.

Yes, this is the intention.

30% Roofed Building

20% Other

50% Landscaping

=Area works well.
