Anthony Neary
Does VW have an option somewhere to move the default location of the library folder? I have not come across anything and web searches seem to indicate there is not. I have a laptop with an SSD and HD, VW as with all of the programs is stored on the SSD, but I want the library to store on the larger HD. Under SP2 VW seemed to be fine with me moving the library file to the HD and having a shortcut in the VW folder called 'Library' and that all seemed fine. Under SP3 this no longer seems to work and I'm losing connection to my default content. Thoughts? Ideally I just don't want the library wasting space on the SSD when it can sit perfectly fine on the Hard Drive. Quote Link to comment
Pat Stanford
Detail will require operating system information, but you should be able to make an Alias/Shortcut to the location you move the library to on the HD in the place the library was on the SSD. If I was doing this on a Mac, I would probably use a SymLink. Quote Link to comment
zoomer
An option for an alternative location while installation would be very nice. As far as I remember a SymLink has some risks (?) I keep the default Libraries in the App Folder. But pull all extra stuff and downloads over to my workgroup library. Since 2017 resource manager and online stuff I only download what I really need. Pat Stanford
No risk that I know of using symlinks. They are operating system level commands that just map directories/files to a different place. Of course you have to set them up right, but once they are set, they are pretty much bullet proof. Quote Link to comment
zoomer
I googled, you are right, Symlinks are save. Quote Link to comment
