minotto
I'm trying to get a rough estimate of where the existing trees are on a site using an aerial photo. After creating the dimensions of a property line taken from an assessor's map reference, i tried importing a snapshot from Google Earth. When the photo is scaled to the property lines dimensions, they don't line up. Is this result of Google Earth photos not being accurate or am i missing something? Quote Link to comment

It could just be inaccurate stitching on Google's part, or if the site is large enough there may be a issue with the applied georeferencing projection. Quote Link to comment
minotto
Thanks Jim. Here is a screenshot. The yellow circle encloses the south side of the property line which should be where the arrow is, surrounding the trees. The North portion (top half) seems to be ok. Quote Link to comment
Vectorworks, Inc Employee PVA - Admin Posted March 16, 2017 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted March 16, 2017 I don't think that's projection or stitching now that I look at it, especially since the problem isnt uniform across the entire line. Apologies, not sure whats happening there. Quote Link to comment
HEengineering
I would suggest making sure your in an aerial view and not a birds eye or a 3d? We usually do this quite a bit with success. Quote Link to comment
minotto
Thanks. I'm not sure if i got it right. I'm assuming that by preventing tilting in Google Earth, the aerial view is achieved since there isn't a view or setting for aerial view, birds eye or 3d. But i wonder if the assessor's map reference is off, though other documents showing the property line seem to confirm that it's correct. Quote Link to comment
