barkest
I have attached the VW file (its one of my students so its edu and 2015). I need a pod shape and have the profile and path as you can see. I have used extrude along path and appreciate that I will end up with a hole in the middle as the path is an oval. Is there a way to get this pod shape? Any help would be hugely appreciated thank you pod not working.vwx Quote Link to comment
AlanW
@barkestHi, I would use revolve with rail. Then shell solid to get thickness. Edited February 24, 2017 by Alan Woodwell 1 Quote Link to comment
barkest
Thanks Alan. as it is an oval there is no way I won't have the hole so will have to plug it. thanks again Quote Link to comment
AlanW
@barkestLOLOL if you rotate the curve backwards the extrude along path works as you want,. 1 Quote Link to comment

If this is what you want just place the curve closer the the centre. Give me an image of exactly what you want. Quote Link to comment
Phil hunt
Try a sweep command 1 Quote Link to comment
Phil hunt
sorry then convert to 3d polys and use the drag handles to reshape Quote Link to comment
AlanW
If you bring the curve to the vertical you will close the top. Good suggestion Phil this sweep works easier but remember to set the segments low to get a smooth curve, Edited February 24, 2017 by Alan Woodwell Quote Link to comment
barkest
Hi Alan do you have the file for that as I can't seem to get it working? thank you Quote Link to comment

barkest
Hi Phil thank you that works with converting to 3D Polys The mesh is pretty high in 2015 works great in 2017 but at our Uni we have 2015 and don't upgrade until next year (I have 2017 on macbook and the difference is huge) Quote Link to comment
Phil hunt
wow....how much difference....i set the segment to angle to 1 degree Quote Link to comment
Phil hunt
guess it also depends on the size of the pod to Quote Link to comment
grant_PD
A pod is a classic subdivision surface. Very easy to make. The entire thing is still editable in the .vwx file. pod.vwx 2 Quote Link to comment
barkest
Thanks Grant but its student work and they are currently using 2015 Quote Link to comment
grant_PD
ahhhhhh... that's no good then. Sorry. Quote Link to comment
grant_PD
How bout a loft then? pod-lofted.vwx Quote Link to comment
barkest
yeah Alan had loft but I could not follow the single rail mode as he switched the profile to the centre - did not seem to work here Quote Link to comment
grant_PD
I didn't use a rail. Just cross sections in horizontal and selected top to bottom. After checking OK, make sure you select the option to "create solids," or you can make planar caps after the fact. Quote Link to comment
barkest
thanks grant its the roundness of the top I need Quote Link to comment
grant_PD
how about the ellipsoid object? In the 3d modeling toolset? That was available in 2015 I believe. Quote Link to comment
barkest
Not that I can see - thanks (hemisphere and sphere) Phil's solution works but the mesh is heavy. Alan's may work if he can post the file as mine is borked. Thanks again Quote Link to comment
grant_PD
I found it in the workspace editor under Tools-Solids. But I can't tell if in 2015 they were there or not. Quote Link to comment
