joey altalef 14 Posted February 19, 2017 Hi, How can I show the doors handles I choosed from the hardware list in my 2D plan? I can see them only in 3D.\ thanks Vectorworks 2017 SP2 Quote Share this post Link to post
rDesign 479 Posted February 20, 2017 By design, door handles (hardware) will only show up in 3D, so you are not going to see them in 2D. From the Vw2017 User Manual on Assigning, Creating, Editing and Deleting Door Hardware Sets Quote A door hardware set can be assigned to the door, and a door operator device (such as a knob or lever) can be selected from default content to display on the 3D door. Pat Stanford 1,632 Posted February 20, 2017 Remember that the only "2D" view is Top/Plan. If you need to see the hardware in a plan like view you can make one by making an elevation viewport and then cutting a section of this viewport horizontally. Set the view to Top instead of Top/Plan and the hardware should show. Quote Share this post Link to post
Phil hunt 76 Posted February 20, 2017 could we have this as an option when inserting a door...the oip already has loads of options like sidelights would be great to insert a certain selection of door handles at source Quote Share this post Link to post
Jim Smith 337 Posted February 20, 2017 Could you not make your doors into symbols & add the door hardware to the 2D view of the symbol? Quote Share this post Link to post

If you hit the wrench and pencil button in the mode bar, you can edit any of the properties before placing a door, just like hitting the Settings button in the OIP. The better wish would be to have the door and window tools updated to be more like lighting devices where the user can choose what options show in the OIP, so you could turn off the ones you rarely use and turn on the ones you need frequently. Phil hunt 76 Posted February 20, 2017 hi pat having problems in finding this, could you show me where to find this option thanks Quote Share this post Link to post
Pat Stanford 1,632 Posted February 20, 2017 Maybe some pictures will help: With the Door tool active, click the Settings button (Wrench crossed with pencil. Used more most VW tools that have settings) Then, choose the Hardware pane down the left side. Click the Use Hardware button in the center and pick the type of hardware to add. Or am I misreading your question? Quote Share this post Link to post
AlanW 547 Posted February 20, 2017 (edited) @joey altalefHi the way you can do this is to add the door hardware and then you will find the symbol in the resource browser, convert the symbol to an autohybrid and return to your drawing and its visible. Unfortunately it doesn't follow the door swing but shows yo when door is closed. Maybe I will need to think a bit more to see if there is a way to have it follow the door. Ok Got it, you need to show open in 3D and the handle will follow the swing. Edited February 20, 2017 by Alan Woodwell 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
Phil hunt 76 Posted February 21, 2017 Thanks pat....I did not know this option was available....great tip thanks Quote Share this post Link to post
bcd 297 Posted February 21, 2017 Nice Alan - proving that this could/should be a simple OIP click away, per@Phil hunt above. Quote Share this post Link to post

Phil hunt 76 Posted February 21, 2017 whilst we are on preferences.....do we think there will be a way to automatically add skirting to walls in a preference panel .....and then when inserting a door... the door automatically breaks the skirting at the point of insertion...... Quote Share this post Link to post
AlanW 547 Posted February 21, 2017 This would be a good inclusion as long as you can use your own mouldings. You can add skirting (baseboards) to walls but the internal trims on the door currently reads the full width of the wall components including the skirting and sets the trim to outside of skirting. Happy for someone to say otherwise. Quote Share this post Link to post
Phil hunt 76 Posted February 21, 2017 hi alan i create my skirtings by extruding a profile along a path but then have to trim the section out where the door fits into the walls ...... would be nice to do as an automatic feature..... Quote Share this post Link to post

The same reason there is that other little palette with the wrenches. I was playing with a tool in Vectorscript. It just so happened that it was easier to add the Mona Lisa icon to that one than to leave it as a wrench. Unfortunately, that code is not mine, so I can't release it or tell you about what it does. :-( You will just have to fantasize. ;-) Quote Share this post Link to post

sle7en7 1 Posted June 7, 2017 (edited) I guess the left over work for the hardware is to adopt to differentiating door thicknesses and jamb widths. I can't get custom door hardware to act like the ones come in with VectorWorks where the default hardware stays on center with the door leaf, custom ones we create don't. Something for the Wishlist I guess. Edited June 7, 2017 by sle7en7 Quote Share this post Link to post
Israel Montalvo 0 Posted November 7, 2017 Hi everybody!!! I have some trouble with the hardware symbols for the doors. When I try to manage hardware for the door I am working with, it appears all settings apparently in the right way, but doesn't show up the symbol image in the right window preview nor in the resource list. I do not know how to active them or if I have to do something else to get the symbols images. It happens the same in every kind of hardware I select. Any comment is welcome... Thanks.
