Helen Palmer
Can anyone suggest a good, realistic render works texture suitable for a large open lake surface? Preferably with some ripples and maybe reflection, but not that requires hours of rendering as it covers a large area. It does not need to be transparent. Thanks. Quote Link to comment
AlanW
@Helen PalmerHi you can try these textures. Scale them up or down to suite the look you want. I tend to make my own with an image and Photoshop. Water.vwx Quote Link to comment
AlanW
@Helen PalmerHi if you dont have 2017 let me know and i can save it back to earlier version Quote Link to comment
Helen Palmer
Thanks Alan, that's very helpful. The only issue is that as the lake is so large the tile pattern really shows which makes it look less realistic. How much could I enlarge the tile before the resolution is adversely affected? I was happy with the way the water turned out, took me several tests. Here you have a couple of renders. I am also including the v2017 with that texture for your use. water texture.vwx Edited February 8, 2017 by Luis M Ruiz 4 Quote Link to comment
Vectorworks, Inc Employee PVA - Admin Posted February 8, 2017 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted February 8, 2017 As @Luis M Ruiz did above, using a Noise shader instead of an Image shader in the texture is the easiest way to avoid pattern appearing in large surface textures. Andy Broomell
@Luis M RuizIs the highlight reflection in the water (second image) from an HDRI background or something else? Quote Link to comment
AlanW
@Luis M Ruiznow that is nice, and thanks for file. Quote Link to comment
Vectorworks, Inc Employee Luis M Ruiz Posted February 9, 2017 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted February 9, 2017 I learned that water, glass and any reflecting material can only sing when they have something to reflect. having an HDRI backgrounds helps but you can also control the environmental reflection in render styles. For example, you can have a blue sky in the back and your glass reflect a forest in fire. Quote Link to comment
