Vectorworks, Inc Employee Popular Post PVA - Admin Posted November 17, 2016 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Popular Post Share Posted November 17, 2016 I hereby declare the Forum upgrade a resounding success! In case anyone was interested (I know *I* am, but I'm a nerd.) in how well things are going, some statistics: (I excluded September and early October from these numbers since we released both new forums and a new Vectorworks version in a small span, so those numbers I'm leaving outside the averages since they're a special case surge of activity) Average logged in forum members per month: Old: 1,182 New: 4,068 Average non-logged-in users per month: Old: 3,378 New: 11,235 New member registrations per week: Old: 16 New: 120 (This has been constant since late Sept) Average posts per week: Old: 284 New: 536 Not only that, the level of quality in discourse has increased significantly in my view, as well as the increased willingness of users to share images and files now that it's been made significantly easier to do so. I will keep my eye on the metrics of course, but this was the first week where I felt the numbers had stabilized enough to treat them as reliable data and I wanted to share them with everyone. However! This was merely the first large step. We plan to continue upgrades for the community, tweaking and enhancing the appearance and capabilities of the forums, intelligently selecting the names and forms of UI elements, attempt to automate the collection of feedback, creating a space for the easy showcasing, versioning and distribution of content created by users (this will be primarily focused on Marionette to start but then likely spread) as well as migrating the knowledgebase into the forum system so that one search will pull from the collective experience of the community as well as the documentation we have been building internally for more than a decade. Also, we will get those legacy attachments fixed. Yes, these changes were done entirely for the benefit of our user base, but it also would not have been possible WITHOUT that very same user base. Your feedback, criticisms and discussion here made all of this possible and I can not thank you enough. This is a much nicer place to spend a good percentage of my cyber-days and we have you all to thank for it. 5 Quote Link to comment

Christian Fekete
Totally agree with everything said above, I love this format. It is much easier to keep track of what you missed, to move around, post and contribute. Thank you for updating, my frustration with the old forum has all but gone away. I love it. Markvl
The new forum is great. Great job @JimWand your team on putting it together. Far more user friendly. The tag and search is way better and love the drag and drop of files. The wishlist voting tool is also great. 1 Quote Link to comment
Tom Klaber
I am going to counter the current trend of congratulations. I miss the old forum....I used to get work done. Now with this new slick forum - I spend my whole day nerding out and arguing with like-minded VW geeks. I worry about my job. 2 Quote Link to comment

See, the trick is to get a software company to pay you to talk/joke/debate/argue with VW geeks all day 2 Quote Link to comment

Vectorworks, Inc Employee PVA - Admin Posted March 23, 2017 Author Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted March 23, 2017 Thank you! My team is awesome and the other departments here that made a lot of this possible are to thank as well. It may LOOK like I do it all but without them I'd be huddled under a desk surrounded by eternally ringing phones Hopefully their roles will become more visible and more discussion can occur between employees and the public as things progress! barkest
A few years ago as a new forum member I remember saying to a friend how bad the forums were. I am not talking about the software but the general feeling and community spirit. I came from a non architecture forum and just thought that's how things were. Fast forward to now and the difference is day and night. Jim has to take a fair amount of credit but there are so many helpful people on here and it all feeds on itself and just gets better. As for the new forums: Build it and They Will Come 1 Quote Link to comment
