zoomer 1,082 Posted October 4, 2016 (edited) Push Pull Tool can't select Faces anymore, until I set the Element to (2D) Front by CMD+F. Even if I rotate my View so that there isn't any other Object behind. I would also allow to choose a few other Objects Faces beside that Element most in (2D) front. Maybe these are "more in front" enough. But the larger part of Elements (Faces) is not selectable. Edited October 4, 2016 by zoomer Quote Share this post Link to post
0 PVA - Jim 2,390 Posted October 4, 2016 In any file with any model? I am unable to replicate this here: Quote Share this post Link to post
0 zoomer 1,082 Posted October 4, 2016 (edited) I think it was in other Files (that were converted from 2016) too. Meanwhile I have imported these. Currently I work in one single file only. But CMD+F does always solve that. Ahm, your example has one Object only ..... I have a lot more - on different Classes/Layers. But it is no visibility or activation problem. I can select all these. But Push Pull will ignore these, until set them to front. "F" does not work, it needs "CMD+F" Edited October 4, 2016 by zoomer Quote Share this post Link to post
0 Kevin McAllister 1,153 Posted October 4, 2016 I've seen tool selection issues with VW2017, most specifically with the Extract tool. There's some sort of hierarchy issue with selection that's different from 2016. KM Quote Share this post Link to post
0 PVA - Jim 2,390 Posted October 4, 2016 If you change the setting for Master Snaps under Objects in the snapping settings, does the behavior seem to be affected? (Though I had it enabled when i recorded that video) This was the only major change to snapping that I recall. Quote Share this post Link to post
0 zoomer 1,082 Posted October 4, 2016 Selection behaves a little strange too. Especially if I want to edit an Extrude by double clicking. That needs a real Select-Break- Double Click for me. Also Snapping is extremely slow here and does not work when e.g. Extrude Edit Mode. It can only snap on Edges, not on Points. Quote Share this post Link to post
0 zoomer 1,082 Posted October 4, 2016 (edited) Have to look at this. I deactivated Master Snaps as it tends to snap to arbitrary points on objects like Columns, where no real "points" are. (Maybe there once where corners there before editing dimensions ?) EDIT : No, doesn't change when I activate MS Option. Edited October 4, 2016 by zoomer Quote Share this post Link to post

0 zoomer 1,082 Posted November 23, 2016 In SP 2 it is still needed to CMD+F front pushing some Solids to make them recognized by the Push Pull Tool. 1. Seems to be no difference in OpenGL lowest legacy Mode vs high performance Mode. Or Wireframe vs OpenGL. 2. I somehow have a lot of Generic Solids that got "Solid Sections". Feels like these may be a bit worse to select (blurry assumption) Don't know if I really have chosen the wrong Boolean Entry when I tried to cut out parts of the whole Building (?) Or these were created arbitrarily. In any case I always substartec a Cut Volume (!), never any Nurbs Surfaces Planes, as they exist now in these Solid Sections. 3. Sometimes it helps to zoom in to make a Solid accessible that was ignored from larger distance, but not always. Quote Share this post Link to post
0 zoomer 1,082 Posted November 23, 2016 (edited) It looks like everything works as expected again - after I got rid of ALL of these ugly Solid Sections in the whole File ! Magic Wand Selection by Object, allows to Select all Solids. These can be reduced to "real" Generic Solids, without destroying things like Extrudes. Solid Additions and such will be affected and and lose history too of course, but this is wanted in my case (in general) Edited November 23, 2016 by zoomer Quote Share this post Link to post

Well, not 100 %. But much better now. 7 hours ago, zoomer said: without destroying things like Extrudes. Probably not. Some Extrudes got caught by the Solid Section Virus. So they degraded to Generic Solids too after Solids conversion. Only way to heal the Extrudes would be to 1. enter the Solid Section 2. CMD+X cut the Extrude 3. delete the Nurbs Plane 4. leave Solids Section edit mode 5. CMD+ALT+V in place pasting the Extrude 6. try to find the former Z-Height of the Extrude One by one of course. 0 zoomer 1,082 Posted March 27, 2017 (edited) 2017 SP3 Push Pull Tool, I still can't select the Objects that I want. Even Objects occluded behind the object of interest will be prioritized in 3D OpenGL. So I renew my wish for a Mode where you can select an element first and PP Tool will look for that locked elements faces only. Edited March 27, 2017 by zoomer 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
0 line-weight 771 Posted April 4, 2017 I am increasingly frustrated by similar issues. Sometimes the push-pull tool finds a face easily, sometimes it just refuses to act on it at all. Sometimes changing my viewpoint helps. Sometimes, if you are trying to push/pull something that's within a group, doubleclicking and entering the group helps. As I use the push-pull tool a lot now, it's becoming really quite annoying. Quote Share this post Link to post
0 line-weight 771 Posted June 12, 2017 This continues to be a problem for me. The more complex the model, the more of a problem it is. Some recent fiddling around / observation suggests it may be linked to the presence of symbol objects. From a given viewpoint, I can highlight faces on various objects fine until I move the cursor onto part of the screen where a symbol object is in the background. Then everything slows down, and often I get the spinning beachball (I'm on Mac) and everything freezes for a few seconds. If I then move back to other parts of the screen, things seem to recover. If I temporarily delete the symbol objects, then there are no problems at all. In this particular case, one of the symbols is a "bimobject" one, one is one I've built myself, partly using geometry imported from a manufacturer's DXF model, and one contains geometry imported from a sketchup model. What they may all have in common is a large number of faces on curved surfaces due to the import process. So it makes me wonder if the push-pull tool is trying to choose between thousands of faces as my cursor passes over those areas, and that's what's freaking it out. If I'm correct then I think it needs to be set to ignore faces within complex symbols...or something. I have to say that this problem is becoming more and more disruptive to my work, as my models increase in complexity. @JimWare you still monitoring this thread? If not I will post this as a new troubleshooting thread. Quote Share this post Link to post
