Understanding of what's needed and tutorials about creating clean drawings

Kevin McAllister

Question

This thread -

Makes we wish for proper understanding of design workflows and what is needed out of Vectorworks to facilitate them. We all need simple, clean, fast drawings from 3d models. There needs to be an understanding of this on the NV side and proper tutorials for helping users to achieve this. The standard is black line (sometimes with lighter weight dashed hidden line detail) with some shading and no colour.

(While the "white model" example given in the thread above is helpful and would be great for one or two feature renderings, in practice this type of rendering is way too slow to be practical. There's no way you could create a whole drawing set using this technique and this needs to be recognized and addressed. My drawing set for a current theatre project has 20+ sheets and each time I issue a set (a couple of times a week for drafts) all the viewports have to be rendered.... 40-50. The sheets are 22x30 and even only rendering at 150dpi its a lot of render time already.)

Unfortunately the workhorse part of the process seems to have taken a back seat for a long time in favour of flashy features that you only use once and a while....
