steebeebo
Is this possible in VW2016? Quote Link to comment
Vectorworks, Inc Employee PVA - Admin Posted September 16, 2016 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted September 16, 2016 This was implemented directly as an attribute in 2017 with Drop Shadows. In 2016 or older I believe only Plants and Massing Models have a shadow ability built in. Quote Link to comment
zoomer
^ that is how I understood this. But will wait for one of your videos to understand how it is meant to work from now on. It sounds quite interesting though. Edited September 16, 2016 by zoomer Quote Link to comment
Vectorworks, Inc Employee PVA - Admin Posted September 16, 2016 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted September 16, 2016 It's pretty cool. Here an example test image, its just polygons layered over each other, the second with the inner polygons selected and with Drop Shadows from the attribute palette enabled: You can even use it on symbols, having drop shadows appear for ALL objects in the symbol or just for the overall perimeter of the symbol. (Since a bathroom sink with shadows would look quite dramatic, but a bit silly.) Since it's now an attribute, it is also possible to assign it by class as well: Quote Link to comment
zoomer
So something like an Effect adding a drop shadow in Vector Design Apps like Corel Draw, Illustrator, Freehand, ... you name it ... And you can control it separately for objects in attributes (or by Class in the future ?) Quote Link to comment
Vectorworks, Inc Employee PVA - Admin Posted September 16, 2016 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted September 16, 2016 Yup it is very Effect-like, and yes you can give them their own settings per-object or you can link them to a classes settings for it. It lets you control Page or World units as well so that you can use it on objects both on sheet layers and in design layers without things getting annoying. The main idea being to save you a lot of post-processing work in things like Photoshop etc. Quote Link to comment
zoomer
So for me that Feature looks quite Effect-ive though. Like many of VW 2017 "new shiny Features" I would not refuse to use. Quote Link to comment
billtheia
You could also do shadows cast from a light object in a top (not top-plan) or high perspective view. This could be done in any version of vectorworks. 1 Quote Link to comment
