As many Service Packs as it takes

rDesign

Question

For the past few product releases, it seems that there has been only five Service Pack updates.

I think that Service Pack updates should be more on-going, so if a new version requires ten updates (or whatever) — so be it. If that's what it takes to get a stable product, that's what should happen and not be limited to only SP 5.

For the time being this will stay the same because of how much scheduling and dependency there is on how we currently do things. However, each of the Sps have their purpose, the most important arguably being SP1 for all the day one issues that are inevitably encountered and SP5 (or whatever one is last) which is very often the final Mac OS compatibility patch that considerably extends the life of an outgoing version.

We may absolutely add or remove SPs from this list as needed though, we do not strictly say "We want 5" at any point, the number sort of rises out of necessity. We may also in the future look into different methods of deploying upgrades, but that is mostly out of radar range for us at the moment.
