Full BIM Example Projects

We are working hard to wrap our heads around what a full BIM output would be like in VW.  It would be great if there were a full project example that we could download - that contained best practices for plans, elevations, interior elevations, details,  MEP references, DWG references, IFC Imports, schedules, project sharing file set up.  There used to be a light version of that - but I can not seem to find them anymore.  It would really help the partners here if I had an example to show them how this BIM thing would work in Vectorworks.

I am halfway through that email as we speak, I went digging and found the 404 error as well. That either means they're updating it or removing it and I suspect it's the former.

(In any case I have explicitly heard the Industry Specialists mention they want to make content exactly like you describe.)

No wonder you can't find the example BIM projects - the link to the BIM Projects on this Vectorworks Architect - BIM  page is broken and gives you a 404 page not found.

Even still, when the BIM links were working, the example projects like the 'Alexandria Laundry Lofts' or the 'Ellicott Heights', or the 'Modern Home Prototype' were started around version 2007 (or even earlier), I still have the files if they can't be found anywhere else. But hopefully there are more recent examples.

Yeah - I remember those.  They were a little disappointing - not entirely unhelpful - but not as robust as I was hoping.  If @JimW can tell us if they took down the examples in preparation for some good new  2017 versions, then I will wait for that.  If not - I might take you up on those files. - Thanks.

This BIM Projects page has some newer files, but they're from 'Build Qatar Live', so they don't represent any sort of real-world contract documentation of a full BIM project.

Curious what would be your checklist for full BIM over partial BIM or kinda BIM?

Well - for example, some people might use the Door plug-in objects only to create Door Schedules, but they don't create any Exterior Elevations or sections from a 3d model. I'd call that kinda BIM.

Full BIM, for me at least, means getting Plans, Exterior Elevations, Interior Elevations, Building Sections, Wall sections, and Schedules directly from the 3D model. Pretty much everything except for 2D details.

I'd say we are running at about 60% BIM then in our office. We are using the model to generate to base of all those drawings but there is way to much trace over and manual co-ordination to call it BIM with confidence. Would also be really keen to see a project that get much further than this.
