Slow Rendering of Elevation

Recommended Posts

I have a series of elevations for a single storey building.

For some reason they are taking a really long time to render.

Similar projects normally take under a minute sometimes as fast as 10 seconds to update.

This current one is at 7 minutes and still going.

Is there a way to find out what is slowing it down?

You may want to check the DPI setting of your Sheet

100-150 works for 1:50 scales @ A3 for us. Any other print size higher (A2-A0) we tend to go to 300dpi which increases render times.

Hmm.. there are 2 render 'teapots' shown in your screen shot? Are there more viewports on this sheet?

There are 5 others. Have only selected the one VP to update. When I cancel the updated on the one VP both teapots disappear.

It looks like it's been rendering 'Edges' for 7m42s - that's a really long time for edges. It shouldn't take that long.

Have you tried quitting Vw and restarting your computer ?

Any special rendering settings or materials ?

As I see the teapot I think a RW Style.

Edit :

oh I see the edge calculation happening. Do you have any hidden line or edge settings activated at all ?

Yeah have been experiencing it for over a week, have shutdown and restarted numerous times in this period.

Ive tried things like turning off surface hatches but havent noticed a difference.

Yea.. not sure what else would cause it. The Ol' restart vectorworks could work. Come to think of it... Vectorwork's should have a Restart Vectorworks option in its menu.. :D

Thanks for all the help guys.

I have been able to isolate it down to one layer. There are 4 shown in the earlier image (site, floor, walls, roof).

I have made 4 VPs, each showing only one of these layers. The roof, floor and site update within seconds, the layer with the walls seems to be the culprit.

Will see if I can isolate the class / object that is cauaing it and submit.

Thanks again.

I was able to narrow it down to walls. Have about 4 wall classes (new, existing, type 1 and type 2).

With just one of those classes on (approx 5 walls), the render was really slow.

With the offending wall class turned on, does it seem like the render progress bar is proceeding normally until it gets to the 'Edges' stage?

Yeah just ran it again.

Pre-render ~1seconds.

Render ~5 seconds

When you are rendering viewports you don't have "Update visible out of date viewports prior to exporting" do you?? if you do you will have to wait until all the other viewports on the sheet are rendered. (Bottom left of Export Dialogue Box)

I think that could help the developers to track that strange behavior down,
if you send them your file and observations.
