Truss disappearing

I am working on an existing drawing.  I am trying to draw in trussing.  When I go into the design layer (right click and edit design layer) and I place the truss on the drawing everything is fine until I click off the truss.  At that point the truss disappears.  I can hover over where it was placed and still click on it and it is selected but once I click off of it on the page it disappears again.

When you say "right click and edit design layer", are you editing a design layer from a sheet layer viewport? If you are I think the issue is the active class or the class that the truss inserts into is turned off in the sheet layer viewport you are working with.

How can I check that?  I have made all classes and layers visible for all viewports.

If you select a sheet layer viewport, you can click on the Classes button in the Object Info Palette to see which classes are active within that viewport.
