Forum Signatures - Spacing

Kevin McAllister

Question

I'm super excited as this is my first post in the new forum (well, first question post :D)! My question is about signatures. I noticed when editing mine the line spacing is very large and it looks like this is true for all of the old signatures. JimW's signature is nice and compact. How do I change mine so the line spacing is more compact?

Thanks,

Kevin

We're eventually going to add the line spacing control widget into the built in editor, but for you you can just create the signature in Word or TextEdit or any word processing app and it will paste with the expected formatting. Set the line spacing to 1 (it defaults here to 1.5 if you had a signature in the old forums)  and then copy/paste.

This SHOULDN'T happen for any users that never had a signature, but I think everyone with an existing one will need to clean it up as described.

Agreed, I'll see what we can do for this. The main issue was that to conserve the content of the signatures we had to also bring in the formatting, we couldn't find a safe way to just strip it to text. I'm pretty sure we can certainly added an empty line underneath, but the issues with line spacing between sig lines will have to be fixed per user.

I debated simply nuking everyone's signatures to blank in the interest of aesthetics, but without the ability to look at your old one on the old forums it seemed a bit harsh.

If you're wondering where Signatures went... This feature needs to be switched on manually. To do so:

  1. Go to the upper right corner and click on your username.
  2. In that menu, click on Account Settings.
  3. In the Settings area, click on Signature.
  4. Switch on the "View Signatures" option.

I also noticed the new line spacing if you press ENTER to start a new line.

^ like here :)

I have not much problems to start new lines by SHIFT+ENTER,
like this when I create new posts.
But the problems is that all my old posts seem to have nor blank lines between
the text also and make it pretty unreadable.

So I think it may be nicer if it could work the old way.

I've noticed this too. I keep deleting the extra lines....

I reformatted my signature in Apple Pages, then I copied and pasted the text into the signature field in My Account Settings/Signature. I added the link to my site in Pages, and I added the color on the link in the My Account Settings/Signature text color dropdown. Kind of a lot of messing around, but I guess once you get it right, you are pretty much done for a while.
