Andrew Mac
I wanted to know if someone can share their thoughts on the saved views versus Sheet layer. Is one easier than the other or can both. I think I would prefer to use the sheet layers for my presentation or sheets to be printed Quote Link to comment
Kevin McAllister
Use sheet layers. Its future proof and plays well when exporting to DWG. There's also a lot more options with Sheet Layer Viewports. I used to use Saved Views but switched to Sheet Layers in 2009 and have never looked back.... Kevin Quote Link to comment
Andrew Mac
Thanks- I agree- If I am working with an existing drawing, can I take the saved views and create a viewport of them and put them on the appropriate sheet? Quote Link to comment
RickR
I use both on every project, because there are often views that are useful in design that I never intend to print. I use saved views exclusively for navigation and sheets just for printing. I also make saved views from viewports, if I've twiddled with a viewport a lot or decided to make multiple similar sheets. Guest Wes Gardner
I kinda look at the two as completely separate issues. The Saved View, in my world, is my Class and Layer manager. It can also set various views. Sheet Layers are where any view cut from the model is placed via viewports, then printed or distributed as a pdf. Quote Link to comment

If only viewports had the option to set active layer and and active class then we could avoid having two systems and just use the drawing set as the navigation/ management tool. Quote Link to comment
Jonathan Pickup
You can use the right mouse click on a viewport to go from the viewport to the design layer. Quote Link to comment
