1 Vectorworks, Inc Employee PVA - Admin Posted September 2, 2016 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted September 2, 2016 Got it to replicate, I was able to get it to happen in another user account. Issue is resolved in the 2017 beta here though, which is good. I will see if a fix can be added for the last SP for 2016 as well. 1 Quote Link to comment
0 Vectorworks, Inc Employee PVA - Admin Posted August 12, 2016 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted August 12, 2016 Normally it should be whatever was displayed actively the last time the file was saved, it generates a bitmap and uses that for the thumbnail. Quote Link to comment
0 zoomer
For me it always uses active layer only. That is why I can't recognize my files from Thumbnails again. Especially if activating a Camera unwanted switched my VIZ Layer active that includes only lights and cameras. (Which they do since SP4 ?) So something you will send a request ? Quote Link to comment
0 Vectorworks, Inc Employee PVA - Admin Posted August 12, 2016 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted August 12, 2016 Im not able to replicate that here, its saving with all visible layers and classes. Make sure to get in touch with support directly and have them take a look. Quote Link to comment
0 Kevin McAllister
Is there a way to turn the file preview on and off to reset it? Somehow my files aren't generating previews anymore. Kevin Quote Link to comment

Have to look into it. Maybe only if you use Stories and Levels or such things (?) Quote Link to comment
0 zoomer
OK, it works as expected when in Top Plan Mode. It works for active layer only in any 3D view. Except when you use a RW Render Style (At least a realistic) I'm on a Mac. Quote Link to comment

0 Vectorworks, Inc Employee PVA - Admin Posted September 2, 2016 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted September 2, 2016 Still not able to replicate this, however it may be possible the issue is related to QuickLook, open Terminal on your Macs (Applications > Utilities > Terminal) and then enter the following: qlmanage -r Then press enter. Reboot the machine and then see if the thumbnails start updating as expected. The thumbs SHOULD be showing exactly what was in your drawing area at the moment of the last save, whether it was top/plan or otherwise. 1 Quote Link to comment
0 zoomer
For me it does update a new thumbnail every time I save my file, reliably. Just that there is only the active layer shown when in a 3D view. I don't know how saving a screenshot of the view window could display anything else than my view window content ? 0 Kevin McAllister
Jim, I tried your reset suggestion and I still don't have any previews. I also followed the instructions in the help - http://app-help.vectorworks.net/2016/eng/index.htm#t=VW2016_Guide%2FStart%2FPreviewing_Vectorworks_Files_from_the_Operating_System.htm&rhsearch=mac preview&rhhlterm=mac preview&rhsyns= It seems to be VW specific. Here's what I see with "show icon preview" off And here's what I see with "show icon preview" on Quicklook just shows me an enlarged VW icon.... Kevin Quote Link to comment
0 Vectorworks, Inc Employee PVA - Admin Posted September 2, 2016 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted September 2, 2016 That's a different issue than what Zoomer is getting then. If you create a new test (admin) user account on that machine, open Vectorworks and save a file with some lines in it to the desktop, does it give a blank review, a proper preview, or just show the icon? 0 Vectorworks, Inc Employee PVA - Admin Posted September 2, 2016 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted September 2, 2016 You may also want to give this a try, but I have not used it in a long time. It was designed to fix a similar issue with other versions and we may use the same system now:http://kbase.vectorworks.net/questions/1121/QuickLook+Preview+stops+working+on+Mac+OS+X Quote Link to comment

I'll try the admin account test. KM Quote Link to comment
0 Kevin McAllister
Just to follow up on this thread... I guess it was a VW issue. After installing SP1 all of the icon previews reappeared for VW files. Kevin Quote Link to comment
0 zoomer
With Sierra install, I had to reassign VWX Files to open with VW (2017) App. Now all VW Files Icons are 2017-Green. Is there any way to get older Files, not yet converted to VW 2017, back to their original VW Version Icon Color ? Quote Link to comment
0 rDesign
@zoomer- Nope. I'm still on El Capitan and all of my Vw file icons are Vw 2017 'green' even though they are all 2016 or older file versions. Here's a link to an older thread about this topic, it's an OS limitation. 0 zoomer
Pity. But here I had at least 3 different colors in my project folder, until I switched to Sierra and had to reapply all vwx again. Quote Link to comment

Just want to point out, that issue with saving only active Layer to Finder Preview when saving file on macOS, was fixed with early VW 2017. VW 2017 saves VW Files Finder Image Preview again as expected with all visible Layers. BTW, here, Sierra SP2 and VW 2017 SP2 also for File Symbol Preview in Cover Flow or similar Finder Modes, everything fine. Don't know if there is still any other issues mentioned in other Post in this Thread. Quote Link to comment
0 Andy H.
I am running VW2016 SP6, Mac El Capitan 10.11.4. Is their a fix for this. Really miss not seeing preview of drawing in finder. Quote Link to comment

It is coming back Icon Showing only Active Layer, not what is in View Window. Quote Link to comment

I wish VW would not only use the Active Layer to create the Preview Thumbnail but
all Visible Layers.
Wasn't that the case before VW 2016 ?
