abrewin
Hi All, I'm sure there's a simple way to do what I'm trying but it's not showing itself! I need to make 'flutes' in a flat pilaster Basically I have a 4 1/2" Wide pilaster i would like to put (4) 9/16' rounded flutes in that stop 4" from top and bottom. Is there an easy way to do this by subtracting solids somehow? Thanks all! Best, Andrew Quote Link to comment
zoomer
You could make a Cylinder, add 2 (half)Spheres to the centers of its ends. Copy/Array as needed and subtract from the pilaster. I think there was a video anywhere in Select Portal that showed how to create even spiral flutes around a column Or this may help also : Quote Link to comment
abrewin
Thanks! I was able to fake it a bit, I made a rectangle, fillet(ed) the corners, extruded it, then used the 3d fillet edge tool for the bottom, added it to my extrude and subtracted solids. Thanks for your help I very much appreciate it! I'd attach a pic but i'm not sure how.... Quote Link to comment
Guest Wes Gardner
You nailed it! Extrude some rectangles, fillet all edges, embed them half-way into what will be the pilaster, subtract solids! Done Quote Link to comment
zoomer
Sorry, I thought flutes were something round like in greek columns. Quote Link to comment
