christosepulveda
Hello all, I am trying to figure out how to find a radius on a curved structure for my woodshop guys. Can anyone help? I have been playing around with the radial, arc and angular dimension tools in “annotations mode” on a viewport but cannot seem to figure it out. Thanks! Quote Link to comment
rDesign
To help you most efficiently we'd need some more information - like what version of Vw are you using and on which OS. Assuming they're 3D structures, you can extract 2d curve geometry from the 3D structure and then dimension the extracted 2d curve. Extracting Geometry : Vw2016 Help Quote Link to comment
P Retondo
christo, you've not given us a very clear idea of what is in the file you are working with. It's a well-known shortcoming that the radius dimensioning tool often does not work in annotation space. If you have actual 2d arc elements on the design layer, you can get the dimensions there. I often have to re-draw an arc over the referenced objects when in annotation space to get a radial dimension to work. Based on limited testing, VW2016 seems to perform a lot better in this regard, maybe this has been fixed with the current version. Here's something that may be a bug: If you extrude a circle, the radial dimensioning tool can pick up the radius from an extrude. If you extrude a polyline that consists in part of arcs, the tool can pick up the radius from the 2d object but not from the extrude. Quote Link to comment
Benson Shaw
Or in the VP annotation, trace a portion of the 3d element with the arc tool (3 point mode) or other 2d. Either read the radius in OIP, or apply the radial dimension tool to the new 2d arc. -B Edited July 29, 2016 by Benson Shaw Quote Link to comment

Yes...WHY is this still an issue after so long of asking for it to be improved. Come on VW isn't it long over due for improvement. Quote Link to comment
P Retondo
GWS, your signature says you're on 2013. I believe this issue might have been resolved in v2016. Quote Link to comment
GWS
Ah, wrong signature and it's still not working properly! Quote Link to comment
GWS
If the object is a symbol or a group then the radius tool fails, and it's temperamental at best. I'm constantly drawing circles and arcs in the annotation space.....very dull Quote Link to comment
