Snaps in 'Snap to Grid' go to half the grid unit as well as the full unit

When I have the snap grid set--for example to 1 inch--points and lines also snap to half the unit, to 1/2 inch as well. Is this normal? How can I make things only resolve themselves on the desired grid?

What you are seeing may be from the Object Snap and Distance Snap.

By default, Object Snap will snap to the end points and center points of objects like lines or rectangles.

By default, Distance Snap will snap 25% of the length from the end of a line or side of a rectangle.

So if you have a line 1" long with it's ends snapped to a 1" grid and you have Object Snap on with Center Point checked the cursor will snap at a 1/2" coordinate at the center of the line.

Likewise, if you have Distance Snap on with Snap By Percent 25 selected the cursor will snap at 1/4" coordinates 25" of the length of the line in from each end.
